Difficult subjects - Snake in the grass

Highlight of Sunday's visit to Top Hill Low was three basking grass snakes. We were able to get right up to them presumably because we were on paving flags and they were on the adjacent grass bank. Great to get so close but very difficult to focus. One moved off it appeared under the flags beneath our very feet whilst I tried to get something decent of the remaining pair.

The other highlight was a first summer (or juvenile?) Little Gull. The mating Advocets have now had chicks, we saw three I believe this is a reserve first, who would have thought this a few years ago. I hope the chicks survive.

I'm not a fan of snakes, but I've taken photos of them as well. Not sure how many more comments I'll do on your blog because of the word verification. No offense to you, but it's really a pain, and half the time I don't get it right because I've guessed wrong on what I thought it said. But I'll still look at your blog everytime you post. I really enjoy your photography. P.S., you wouldn't consider going to "Word Verification Free" would you? LOL

Hi Montanagirl
I suffer same when posting comments on others blogs, they are not easy sometimes.
I welcome all comments, positive as well as constructive negative comments. Consequently I allow comments straight onto the page and have never had a real issue.
Simply, I did not know I could make comments verification free and if I can do this I certainly will.
I like to hear from you as your photography is ace so I hope you will persevere! LOL

Hi Chris
The fact is I was terrified of snakes. I have now seen adders a good number of times and behind the camera I do not bother albeit keep safe.
Grass snakes well, they are not venomous what can they do, they are long but their heads so small, can they suck me to death. neah!
