Grey Wagtails

Pictures of one of the pair that was feeding young on the Derwent where I live yesterday.

Great picture opportunities but the lighting was very difficult. My shots of the youngster actually getting fed were burnt out in the powerful bright light.

Oh well, tomorrow perhaps I thought? No it's cloudy and dull tonight but Wags still present.

Thanks Paul & Jill.
Very lucky to have this bird so near to home. They can be seen in Troutsdale (Hilla Green) most of the time.
Cheers Mike

Hello Mike
My partner & I were in in Hawes, N. Yorks a few days ago and we were entertained by a pair of birds feeding on insects above a fast moving stream. The flashes on their underbellies seem to indicate that they were grey wagtails.
Their flight reminded me of dragonflies, the way they darted after the insects. Beautiful spectacle!

Thanks Rachel and Brian
Grey Wagtails are certainly beautiful darting around catching insects and bobbing at the waters edge.
Thanks for commenting.

For the last week I have had a grey wagtail visiting my garden regularly at about the same time each day. I don't have a pond or live near a stream and have never seen one before, so consider myself very privileged. I live in Cowplain in Hampshire. I think it must be a male as the yellow is very bright on the breast. I have my camera at the ready but so far have missed taking a shot.
