Saturday Delight

Yesterday began very dull and rainy but brightened briefly for short spells, trying to follow the sun I drove west and went to the bird feeders in Dalby Forest. There was no food out but after putting a load of seed out and I confess some left over bread we soon had the usual flock of finches and tits including a lovely Marsh Tit there was also Magpies and four or five Carrion Crows. The light was very variable but briefly it was great enabling these shots of Crows.

We then drove back east along lanes but did not see too much a Common Buzzard was circling over Wykeham Ings. I then got advice from Dave Mansell (East Ayton Birding) to say there were four Waxwings in Filey. The birds were soon located and were very confiding, down to about 10', great to see these beuatiful exotic birds again. The light by this time 3:30pm+ was poor so my pictures do not do this species justice. If you want to see some cracking shots of these birds please follow the link to Dave's excellent website from my blog.

Crows are such smart and entertaining creatures, and your images show that very nicely. Happy Valentine's Day~

Very well done Mike, great shots of the Waxwings. Marvellous birds and a privilege to see them, something I have yet to achieve.

Hi Mike,
What???' You got bohemian waxings! Man this is my favorite bird, how come you got them!!! I had hope that they will come around Reykajvik after someone saw a flock of 500 on the east coast but so far no sing of them! I hope I will manage to see them!!! And the pictures you got of them are splendid mate!! I love to see them gobbling the berries like that... Gorgeous!

Lovely pictures, especially the Waxwings. This is one bird I would love to see, I don't think the Waxwings come down as far Dorset.

Thanks Mary, Roy, Chris & Lind.
Hope you had a good day too Mary.
Hope you get the chance soon Roy, a real treat.
Chris we get blessed on the East Cost sometimes!
I think you might need to get further up North Linda although in a year when we get a real influx (I am not sure that has hapened this year)they will get over to the west side of Britain.
