Short Eared Owl

Last evening was glorious beautiful sunshine little cloud a total contrast to the grim start in the morning.

The evening before had been too windy and there was no sign of the SE Owl although I did see a Barn Owl on my way home. I first saw the SE Owl in this vicinity on 2 April. I am told there is a pair and I heard another report of a SE Owl just a couple of miles away yesterday.

I confess last night one of the birds I wanted to see was performing brilliantly quartering up and down the road. The only problem was that I was the wrong side of it looking at it directly into that brilliant sun light.

I took quite a few shots but focusing and everything else proved real difficult in that light. Here are a couple of the half salvageable efforts. I hope to get another chance. I confess I tweaked the last one in Photo Shop, I think it's probably no better.

I have also seen a Little Owl in this area twice this last week.

Great shots and always a magical view as they hunt.

Superb images...it's a wonderful bird to see never mind getting an image of.

Why feel the need to "confess" photoshop use? As I see it, PS is another tool in the photographic toolbox. You're not misrepresenting the "natural history" of the scene.
Of course if you get to the point of having camels grazing atop ice flows, then I'll grumble! ;-)

Thanks Marc

Very lucky and this year a very good one for Shorties.

Cheers Roy

Thanks Andrew

I have no problem with Photo shop Kevin, it's just I never use apart from cropping and a small amount of sharpening on occassion.

A stunning bird Mike - I didn't think they'd still be around until now. mustn't be long before they head for the hills?

A real beauty Christian. I only heard of these SEO in the last fortnight, I guess it's a stop before moving on. Surprised they have not moved on yet.
