Ruddy Darters

Common Darters

Small Copper

A few Dragonflys and Damselflies seen flying around at Top Hill Low yesterday despite quite windy conditions. A number of Darters were flying as well as Southern Hawker around a pond which did not settle.

In the wood these two Ruddy Darters landed fairly close to me. I also saw one or two 'blue' Damselflies.

There was good numbers of butterfly species seen Common Blue, Meadow Brown, Speckled Wood, Peacock, Red Admiral, Wall and Small Copper.

Nice image of the Small Copper Mike, I have not seen any this year. I particularly want to get one of the female with the blue on the wings.

Lovely Small Copper Mike, they seem to have been in short supply this year. Roy- come to Scarborough, when we have them, the blue spotted variety are the most common on the castle headlands.

Thanks for the comments.
My field card only shows a male Small Copper so your post was interesting Roy.
You've set a new challenge, they are very flighty, on a web page I viewed there was spaces for pictures of the underside, I am not surprised.
